Akoya Pearl Quality
Grown out of Akoya oysters are Akoya pearls which are among the most popular types of pearls of today. Japan and China are so far the major and leading producers of Akoya pearls. Generally, an Akoya pearl is considered as the most lustrous of all pearls and this significantly elevates the quality of the pearl.
However, the pearl’s luster is only one of the five qualities that are being considered to determine the quality of the pearls. These certain qualities include color, size, surface, and shape of the pearl.
Cultured, as well as natural pearls appear in various colors like champagne, silver, cream, white, black, blue, green, gold, and a whole lot more. Pearls usually have overtones that appear to be very evident from the pearl’s basic color. Akoya pearls are often white or cream in color accentuated with overtones like silver, cream, or rose. The pearl’s color is its distinct factor that helps a person determines the type of pearl which is appropriate of wearing.
Size also plays a big role in the quality of the pearl. Typically, a pearl with a larger size fairly has a much higher price. This is done by simply measuring the diameter of the pearl in terms of millimeters. Akoya pearls however, tend to be small as they are grown from the smallest pearl-producing oyster of today. The average measurement of an Akoya pearl often appears to be within 6-8 millimeters and is basically smaller in comparison with Tahitian, freshwater, and South Sea pearls. However, the size of the pearls that is often marketed and sold today are that of Akoya’s.
However, the size of the pearls that is often marketed and sold today are that of Akoya’s. A smooth surface is basically characterized by zero spots, no discolorations, and without bumps and spots. In most cases, Akoya pearls appear as shiny and reflective pearls which are an important factor in raising the quality of the pearls.
Freshwater pearls also vary in their shapes. There are times that a pearl appears with a tear-drop shape, button shape, ringed shape, and baroque. Pearls in baroque shapes are the ones that appear as abstract and asymmetrical. But the most admired shape of them all is the perfect round which only comes in rare times and with a very high price. The Akoya pearl is that one kind of pearl that often come out an round or near-round shapes. These main characteristics of Akoya pearls help elevate their quality. These days, Akoya pearls are some of the considered favorites by pearl enthusiasts and the perfect elements in making jewelries.
Exquisite South Sea Pearls
Pearls are just really lovely, aren’t they? They seem to be these simple creations woven to become a bit more, or even a whole lot more, than just being simple. South Sea Pearls are among the most popular of the pearls created into nice pieces, as they are as most widely harvested cultured ones.
Pearls will be pearls. They will forever be favored and loved, as the story of the duckling turning into a beautiful enchanting swan. Seemingly like witches and villains, man act as the contributor to how pearls become champions in the end. They start when a farmer implants a mother of pearl inside the oyster, and by natural process the oyster finds the substance alien to its composition, hence depositing elements to what it does not recognize – of which results to a South Sea Pearl. More often than not, farmers and those cultivating them often wish they become a paragon of a perfectly shaped pearl. Although they usually do not get this and sometimes even getting seemingly deformed shapes as baroque, they usually are still very much happy with the results – given that South Sea Pearls are very much rare. Although chances of this are rarer than South Sea oysters, they usually are happy of their harvests, especially since formation of pearls are rare as they come.
Similar to other pearl jewelry, they come in different varieties, as they come in varying colors, as white, cream, silver, gold, black and taints of colored ones. They are regarded as the largest among other pearls and usually grow in larger sizes. This happens primarily because of the implants of the bead already big. This happens primarily because of the implants of the bead already big.
When it comes to size, South Sea oysters are regarded as the largest that can grow pearls. This, accordingly, is easily the reason why South Sea Pearls grow as large, as well.
Like other freshwater pearls, it takes time to cultivate them. But as we speak of South Seas, they are known to be well grown and abundant in the countries within the South Asia East Asia Region, as Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan and covering as far as Australia, as well.
Pearls are, indeed, very lovely. And as small things becoming bigger and greater, they are made so because there is the convergence of nature and nurture. As man nurtures what is before him and accordingly allow nature to do its work, it seems like a partnership between them to bring such a treasure as the South Sea Pearl. Isn’t that such a beauty?
